-ThePre-MPA Concerts within the Music Department are coming up! Band is Monday, March 1st in the Black Box, Chorus is Next Thursday, March 2nd at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at 7 PM, and Orchestra concert is March 7th in the Black Box at 7 PM. These are free concerts and open to students, parents, and faculty. Come out to support the NWSA Music Department! -Congratulations to Sarah Albritton, Isaiah Burwell, Jirah Montgomery, Caeser Queen, Margaret Hankins, Caroline Palmer, Kyra Totillo, and Alvina Inthanonh who performed with The Piano Guys on wednesday night! You represented Northwest and the Orchestra program extremely well to the Charlotte community! -The NWSA Maya Angelou Art Competition is in full swing! In honor of women's history month, the Harvey B. Gantt Center will host an evening celebrating the life of the legendary Maya Angelou. This competition is open to all students at Northwest students! Submissions can include a dance work, painting, sculpture, print or drawing as they relate to the depth of Maya's work. The student work will be shown at the Gantt Center just adjacent to the current exhibition in the Hewitt Gallery. Submission deadline is March 8th, 2017. -Our Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon and will turn the Media Center into our very own bookstore. Find hundreds of books from new and favorite authors, popular series, cool posters and school supplies, not to mention fun! The Scholastic Book Fair will be here from March 13th to March 17th and everyone is invited! -Join NWSA's new Maker Club! If you're interested in tinkering, upcycling, crafting, knitting, 3D printing, robots, coding, and pretty much making, in general, you are invited to join us! Our first meeting will be Tuesday, March 7th, before school at 8:15. We will meet every Tuesday morning. Each week will have a different focus: there will be upcycling projects, knitting, an open makerspace to create whatever you want, as well as CoderDojo, focused on learning on how to code, including use of the 3D printer, Sphero, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi. You're welcome to join us every week or just come the weeks that interest you. You will be given a schedule on March 7th, so make sure to join us in the Media Center at 8:15!
